  • The project is funded by sewer ratepayers

Article 16 authorized funding for the design phase of major upgrades at the town’s wastewater treatment facility. Paul Kierce, Vice Chair of the Sewer Commission, explained that the facility requires modernizing its core components to maintain reliable service for the town’s sewer ratepayers. We're going to begin to replace some of the pumping systems and air systems that are in the sewer treatment plant, Kierce noted.

The project focuses on the essential machinery that drives the treatment process, which has begun to show signs of age. The design work funded by this article is the first step toward a larger construction project intended to ensure the plant meets environmental standards and operational needs for the coming decade. The measure required and received a two-thirds majority vote.
