The Paul Pratt Memorial Library is kicking off October with a renovated children's space and a full slate of festive events for all ages. Following the completion of its Children’s Library remodel, the library invites families to “check it out.” A recent video update also highlighted a month of Halloween-themed fun—dubbed ‘Spooktober’—alongside new services and community lectures.

Special events for younger residents include Dr. Jungle Stein's Halloween Spooktacular Madness Show on Sunday, Oct. 26, for children ages 3-10. Costumes are highly encouraged for what the library calls “some spooktastic fun for your little ghouls.” Additionally, Decimated Designs will lead a spooky makeup class on Friday, Oct. 17, where participants can learn to create Halloween looks that will be “the talk of the town.” Regular weekly programming also returns, with Lego Club on Mondays, the popular therapy dog reading program on Tuesdays, and story time with Miss Sarah on Wednesdays.

The library's third annual Library Crawl will run throughout October. Residents can pick up a passport pamphlet and collect stamps from various local libraries for a chance to win a prize. New books arriving this month include “The Academy” by Elin Hilderbrand, “All the Way to the River” by Elizabeth Gilbert, and “The Coffin Moon” by Keith Rosson. The adult lecture series features a presentation on the history of the North River by the North and South Rivers Watershed Association (NSRWA) on Oct. 9. The library's monthly wellness series continues with a yoga-focused session on Oct. 23.

To increase accessibility, the library has launched a new Homebound Delivery Service for residents who have difficulty visiting due to mobility issues or illness. Patrons can request books, audiobooks, magazines, or DVDs from the library’s collection for direct delivery. For more information on the new service, residents can email Jennifer Evans at jevans@ocln.org. A full list of events and registration details is available on the library's website.
